About me
I’m Danilo Mormandi, a guitarist working as a performer, band leader, arranger and teacher based in Rome.
Active member of several projects that range among jazz, rock, blues, funk, fusion, soul and pop.
Born and raised in Italy, my musical journey starts with classical guitar lessons. This leads to my experience in the Music Academy of Rome, that inspires me to pursue a musical career under the guidance of teachers Michelangelo Piperno, Roberto Gavazzi, Fabio Taddeo, Andrea Avena.
During this period I fall in love with funk, pop and jazz. I start to take individual lessons and attend masterclasses of local and international musicians like Peter Bernstein, Gilad Heksleman, Lage Lund, Scott Henderson, Wayne Krantz, Fabio Zeppetella, Nicola Puglielli, Edoardo Righini, Pedro Martins, and many more.
In 2016 I move to the Netherlands where I study with Martijn Van Iterson at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In the Netherlands, the chance to meet many musicians of different backgrounds leads to the birth of several musical projects like Icarus Cloud, B.S.C., Jazz&Dance, Mixing Burrito, Danilo Mormandi Trio and Quintet, where I explores the influences of my guitar heroes John Scofield and Pat Metheny writing his own compositions and arrangements. Funk legends like Maceo Parker and Tower of Power, lead to B.S.C, a funk orchestra that I lead, performing arrangements of soul classics and my original compositions.
In 2021, we publish an EP with B.S.C., collaborating with the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and local venue Musicon, performing in several festivals during the summer.
In 2022 I feauture on the record Guillermo Almo Viana “Sono of Rage and Impotence”. During the same year, I also feature also on the record of saxophonist Felipe Castro “Past and Present”.
In 2023 I start teaching at the British School in the Netherlands, working as the main guitar and bass teacher, helping students from the age of 6 to 18 to achieve their musical dreams. I collaborate with Trinity College London to offer my students a certificate that can assess their level of progress.
Strong of the experience I accumulated abroad, studying and teaching, and thanks to the influence of modern artists, I move back to Rome in 2026, with the mission to contribute to the evolution and the development of the local scene, aiming to create an engaging and original network for musicians and a livd music experience for the listener.
